Grapefruit linked to breast cancer

You thought you were doing your body a favor when eating that grapefruit

I've heard of a diet which involved eating grapefruit. I don't know anyone who actually eats this fruit without putting a ton of sugar on it, and how is that good for you?

But I was told how much weight I could lose so I thought I'd give it a try. It seems like I'm dieting 364 days a year, but who's counting.

Just when I got done stocking up on my low calorie sweetener that I was going to have to use on my grapefrit, I just happened to read an article that said eating too much grapefruit could increase risks of breast cancer.

It seems according to scientist eating grapefruit every day could raises the risk of developing breast cancer by almost a third. A study of 50,000 post-menopausal women found eating just a quarter of a grapefruit daily raised the risk by up to 30%.

The theory is that the grapefruit boost levels of oestrogen - the hormone associated with a higher risk of the disease according to the British Journal of Cancer reported.

But the researchers and other experts said more research was still needed. While all this is interesting, I'm sure this is only one small piece of a bigger puzzle that shows us how our diet affects our health.

Breast cancer account for almost one third of all cancers in women and other factors that have increased the likelyhood of developing cancer include drinking and being overweight.

I can't say I'm crushed with this news, really it's just one less crappy diet to follow. Anyone in the market for some low calorie sweetner?

I love grapefruit! I eat them plain without sweetener. Are you sure it contains oestrogen? What's a girl to eat?

Who knows, I'm sure if you ask the farmer's or who ever makes a lot of money on grapefruit they would tell you the exact opposite. If money is involved, I know which side I trust. Perhaps you should at least not eat them everyday.
